AdvocacyGender and CultureEach year, the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) publishes a report on the state of world population, which is launched simultaneously in every part of the globe. The launch of the 2008 edition of the report, entitled "Reaching Common Ground: Culture, Gender and Human Rights", took place on 12 November 2008. The message of the clip is aimed primarily at men, whose commitment is essential for women's empowerment and for promoting women's rights. It points out the importance of gender equality to enhance the living conditions of any society, whatever its cultural background may be. The clip can be used by UNFPA and its NGO partners, among them IFPD, in the context of various advocacy projects and initiatives. Given Dr Bertrand Piccard's fame, it holds a high potential on the level of impact. A French and an English version (with and without music) are available; a broad distribution of the clip, which lasts 30 seconds, is hence made possible.
