UNFPA, the United Nations Population Fund (www.unfpa.org) , is an international development agency that promotes the right of every woman, man and child to enjoy a life of health and equal opportunity.
UNFPA supports countries in using population data for policies and programmes to reduce poverty and to ensure that every pregnancy is wanted, every birth is safe, every young person is free of HIV/AIDS, and every girl and woman is treated with dignity and respect.

IFPD is a UNFPA partner in Switzerland since 1999.

Through the intermediary of IFPD, doctor Bertrand Piccard (www.bertrandpiccard.com) was appointed UNFPA Goodwill Ambassador for Switzerland, during a ceremony at the United Nations headquarters in New York, on 16 November 1999.

In his capacity as Ambassador, Bertrand Piccard actively contributes to promoting UNFPA's mission, as well as the key role of women in the context of poverty reduction. He participates in various events organised by UNFPA and IFPD.

Between 27 October and 3 November 2002, he thus carried out a mission to India; the programme included a visit to the WIN project.
