WIN Delhi

IFPD has supported the WIN (Women of India Network) project in Mumbai since 2001. This project proved to be a most efficient tool in the fight against poverty; given its success, IFPD decided to replicate the WIN model in other slum settings in India.

To this effect, we identified a new partner organisation, called AGRAGAMI, which has been working since 2008 in one of the most underprivileged areas in Delhi.
The reasons why IFPD chose to join forces with AGRAGAMI and implement a second WIN project in India are the following:

  • AGRAGAMI and IFPD share a common approach, basically aimed at women's key role in the development process; the empowerment of women represents one of the main driving forces leading to poverty reduction and economic growth.
  • AGRAGAMI is a well-run, community-oriented organisation with a staff of dedicated professionals and volunteers. It has a remarkable  track record with regard to the field activities it carried out so far.
  • Given its mission and identity, AGRAGAMI is an excellent partner for the replication of the WIN model, and the development of a reliable and fruitful collaboration.

IFPD and AGRAGAMI agreed on a collaborative programme of seven years, called WIN Delhi and consisting of three phases:

  • Phase I: Preparatory Phase from October 2011 to September 2012: the preparatory phase is currently under way. During this period, Agragami will consolidate the achievements of its experimental phase, and progressively increase its field staff and the coverage of the target population to create optimal conditions for the second phase.
  • Phase II: Implementation Phase from October 2012 to September 2015: during this phase, the programme activities will be extended to all dimensions of the WIN model, namely health, education and income generation. The programme will be covering the whole target population.
  • Phase III: Consolidation Phase from October 2015 to September 2018: during the third phase, measures will be taken to ensure self-reliance and sustainability of the programme activities. The work programme will be determined following an independent evaluation of the implementation phase in 2015.

In November 2011, three of IFPD's Board members travelled to Delhi for a first evaluation visit of the project; they were very positively impressed by the competence, commitment and efficiency of the AGRAGAMI staff and its president, Ms Rekha Masilamani.
