IFPD is a Swiss Foundation (with legal status according to articles 80 and following of the Swiss Civil Code), which was established in Lausanne in 1999 and is presently based in Geneva.

IFPD’s commitments are in line with the programme of action adopted at the International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD) in Cairo (1994) – as well as with the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), endorsed by the member states at the United Nations Millennium Summit in 2000, and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), adopted by world leaders at the United Nations Summit for the post-2015 development agenda, held in New York from 25-27 September 2015.

IFPD is not affiliated to any governmental, religious, political or ideological body or institution. It is a not-for-profit organisation and depends on donations to finance its projects.

IFPD’s Board and Staff:

  • Work along the principles of accountability, transparency, open-mindedness and knowledge sharing.
  • Fully respect the commitment, experience and know-how of their partner organisations.
  • Ensure that proposed project activities are appropriate for the local conditions.
  • Promote a sense of responsibility among all project stakeholders.
  • Encourage the active participation of beneficiaries.
  • Guarantee the strictly focused allocation of all donated funds.

IFPD operates with a small but effective administrative unit, and has built up an extensive network including United Nations agencies, international organisations, and NGOs based both in industrialized and developing countries.
